Carina Heights is a quiet and leafy suburb located 8km South East of the Brisbane CBD. The suburb is best known for Whites Hill Reserve (located in the South Western corner of Carina Heights) and its close proximity to Westfield Carindale. Carina Heights is bordered by the suburbs of Carina, Coorparoo, Holland Park, Carindale and Mount Gravatt East.

The population of Carina Heights in 2011 was around 6,106 and continues to grow. 55% of households in Carina Heights are owner occupied and consistent predominantly of couples with children.

Shops, restaurants and entertainment

Westfield Carindale located just east of Carina Heights is the largest shopping centre in the area. Smaller shops can be found on the corner of Creek Road and Pine Mountain Road as well as the corner of Boundary Road and Samuel Street.


Several convenient bus services connect Carina Heights with the Brisbane CBD. Busses also take residents to the Westfield Shopping Centre located in neighbouring Carindale.


There are no schools in Carina Heights, but the surrounding suburbs offer a variety of good education options including San Sisto College (Carina), St Martin’s Catholic Primary School (Carina) and Whites Hill State College.

Parks and Green spaces

Whites Hill Reserve accounts for almost a third of the suburb’s area including over 170 hectares of bushland, and a variety of walking tracks, barbecues, picnic spots, playgrounds and sporting fields. The Whites Hill Lookout provides views of the city.

Whatmore Street Park is a smaller park in the northern part of Carina Heights.

Major employers

Many residents commute to the Brisbane CBD for work. Major local employers include Westfield Shopping Centre, Griffith University (Mount Gravatt) and Greenslopes Private Hospital.

Most and least desirable areas

Most areas in Carina Heights are quiet and leafy.

Traffic noise can be an issue for properties close to the Carindale Shopping Centre, and around the main roads (Old Cleveland Road, Creek Road, Pine Mountain Road and Winstanley Street). Buyers should check the Brisbane City Council Flood Maps, as some areas are susceptible to flooding.
